Amman, Jan. 2 (Petra)-- Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan on Friday mourned the passing of former Deputy Prime Minister and minister Saleh Irshaidat, who died earlier today.

The Prime Minister expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the late Irshaidat.

Irshaidat held several senior government positions throughout his distinguished public career.

He served as Minister of Youth from 1991 to 1993, Minister of Water and Irrigation from 1994 to 1996, and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities from 1996 to 1997. In 2000, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Prime Ministry Affairs, and later served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport from 2000 to 2001.

He was also a member of the 12th Lower House in 1993, and served multiple terms in the Senate. In addition, Irshaidat represented Jordan as ambassador to several European countries, chaired the boards of a number of institutions in the transport sector and other fields, and was a member of the Royal Committee for the Modernization of the Political System.

Irshaidat is remembered for his long record of public service and his contributions to Jordan’s political, diplomatic, and administrative institutions.
