Petra, Dec 24 (Petra) – The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Board of Commissioners on Wednesday approved the official forms of applications for ownership and lease of immovable property, based on regulations governing the leasing and ownership of property outside the Petra Archaeological Reserve, or other archaeological sites within the region.
The decision allows the PDTRA to start receiving applications at the Investment Directorate (One-Stop Shop), which will review them according to legal procedures.
The board also named a lease and ownership committee, chaired by the commissioner for Infrastructure and Investment, and comprising six specialized directors, including a Department of Lands and Survey representative, to take tasks and powers under the regulations.
PDTRA Chief Commissioner Fares Breizat said the lease and ownership system outside the Petra Archaeological Reserve's boundaries has passed all legislative and regulatory frameworks after its publication in the Official Gazette, which enables the authority to start receiving and processing applications.
The system seeks to achieve public benefit for all stakeholders, including Petra district residents, investors, and landowners within the Petra region, but outside the boundaries of the archaeological reserve or other archaeological sites, through maximizing private property utilization and turning them into real investment opportunities, he pointed out.
Breizat said the system aligns with the government's directives for developing local communities and channeling creative energies towards secure investments that create jobs and enhance sustainable development in the southern region.
