Karak, November 2 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II, during a meeting in Karak on Sunday with local community leaders, emphasised the importance of continued implementation and oversight of government projects in Karak, and maintaining open channels of communication with citizens.

According to a royal court statement, during the meeting, held at Prince Feisal Sports City, His Majesty noted that while good planning is necessary, effective implementation is essential.

The King directed the government to develop tourism projects in Karak that benefit the local community, provide employment opportunities for young people, and promote economic growth.

His Majesty also directed the government to establish a cable car project in Karak to promote tourism and enrich the experiences of visitors to archaeological sites The King spoke about his recent international tours, noting that the aim is to protect Jordan’s interests, and defend Arab causes.

His Majesty explained that, due to the challenges facing the region, international working visits are important to keep lines of communication open and ensure Jordan’s voice is always heard, in addition to opening up new economic opportunities for the Kingdom.

The King also affirmed that Jordan is strong and capable of facing any threat.

Speaking about the Palestinian cause, His Majesty reaffirmed Jordan’s unwavering stance towards Palestinians, and that no effort has been spared in supporting the people of Gaza and the West Bank.

Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, delivering remarks during the meeting, said that the government’s approach is to implement the King’s directives on the ground, noting that the governorate’s development vision, including projects and priorities for each sector, were agreed upon with representatives of elected bodies during their meeting with the Cabinet in Karak last year.

Speaking about the Karak cable car project, the prime minister said the government will complete the necessary studies and steps to implement the project as soon as possible, in order to catalyse tourism and connect Karak Castle with broader development paths that serve the local community.

Prime Minister Hassan added that the government has completed restoration of the Qatraneh Castle archaeological site, which will help boost the tourism sector in Karak, as it has been linked to tourist routes as part of an integrated project to develop desert castles and palaces.

The prime minister affirmed that, in addition to tourism projects, the government will continue to work on several development projects in industry, agriculture, health, transport, and education in Karak.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi said that after a Royal visit to Karak last year, a committee formed with local community participation prepared a plan to preserve and revive Karak Castle and the old city, in addition to approving the 2025-2026 tourism development plan.

Issawi also gave a brief about Royal initiatives implemented in Karak since 2006, with a total value exceeding JD50 million, focusing on rehabilitation of vital buildings and facilities, and infrastructure development.

He said Royal initiatives in Karak served the education, youth, health, social development, tourism, and environment sectors, helping to create job opportunities for local communities.

Speakers at the meeting welcomed the King’s visit to Karak, and expressed their appreciation for His Majesty’s modernisation and development directives.

They also spoke about achievements in Karak across industry, agriculture, sports, tourism, and women’s empowerment, highlighting areas for potential improvement.

Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and Adviser to His Majesty for Tribal Affairs Kneiaan Bluwi attended the meeting.
