Amman, October 1 (Petra) – The Ministry of Environment and the Royal Scientific Society’s National Centre for Energy Research won the silver award for large-scale solar energy projects at the Emirates Energy 2025 Awards in Dubai.

The award recognises their EU-funded project to install photovoltaic systems for agricultural water pumps in the Jordan Valley and highland areas.

The initiative, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, aims to reduce energy consumption, cut carbon emissions and support farmers economically and socially.

The project, completed in two phases, involved installing 820 solar-powered systems, generating 12,280 MWh of electricity annually, cutting 7,879 tons of CO₂ emissions and saving farmers around JD 1.18 million per year.

It created over 60 green jobs and trained more than 940 engineers and farmers in solar energy technologies.

Raafat Assi received the award on behalf of Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, while Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman accepted the award for the project.

The Emirates Energy Award, held biennially, honours innovation and best practices in renewable energy and sustainability across the MENA region.
