Amman, Dec. 18 (Petra) – Jordan participated in the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, held in Doha, Qatar, with the participation of delegations from signatory states, alongside experts from regional and international organizations and civil society institutions.

The four-day conference addressed international cooperation, asset recovery, and a review of measures taken by States Parties to implement the convention.

Chairperson of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission Muhannad Hijazi said Jordan supports initiatives aimed at strengthening accountability and transparency and developing objective methodologies to measure corruption, noting that such efforts enhance the efficiency of national systems and bolster countries’ ability to combat corruption.

In his address, Hijazi said Jordan’s integrity framework, under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, is rooted in the conviction that the rule of law cannot be achieved without effective mechanisms to protect public funds, promote transparency, and anchor reform in accountability. He noted that the commission, in cooperation with the judiciary, continues to enhance its capacity in asset recovery and legal settlements related to corruption cases.

Hijazi highlighted Jordan’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships, particularly with the European Union, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the United Nations Development Program, stressing the commission’s progress in law enforcement and in institutionalizing integrity values across public administration.

He added that the commission has conducted in-depth corruption risk assessments in key sectors, including water, health, agriculture, education, and tourism, in line with international best practices. He noted that the upcoming Municipal Governance Index aims to enhance operational efficiency, raise service standards, and strengthen transparency in local decision-making.

Hijazi also referred to the National Integrity and Anti-Corruption Strategy for 2026–2030, describing it as a more comprehensive framework based on prevention before enforcement and empowerment before accountability, aligned with digital transformation and administrative and economic modernization.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Jordanian delegation held meetings with delegations from several countries to discuss cooperation, exchange expertise in corporate governance, private sector integrity, and anti-bribery measures. The delegation also affirmed readiness to support regional counterparts in strategic planning and asset recovery.
