Amman, Sept. 23 (Petra) – Abdullah Tawfiq Kanaan, Secretary-General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs, affirmed that the Palestinian issue remains the most prominent and dynamic matter on the international stage, amid the ongoing displacement and mass killings of Palestinians, continued settlement expansion, and the apartheid policies of Israel’s far-right government, which rejects international legitimacy and violates laws under the guise of "power-based peace," supported, unfortunately, by double standards.

Kanaan told Petra that for Jordan its leadership and people the Palestinian issue is both a national and humanitarian cause, rooted in a long history of sacrifices and steadfast support. He highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah II’s speech at the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution in New York, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, describing it as a call for the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities to support the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to self-determination and an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He noted that this call has been a consistent theme in the King’s speeches for many years, representing the voice of Palestinians, including those wounded and displaced under Israeli attacks, urging the implementation of UN resolutions and international conference outcomes, and citing recent recognition of the State of Palestine by influential countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and Portugal.

Kanaan emphasized that the Royal Committee underscores the wisdom of the King and the international confidence in the Hashemite message of peace, extending from the Arab Revolt to the positions of the Hashemite monarchs, reinforcing the centrality of Jordan’s diplomatic stance amid growing international frustration with Israeli policies and increasing global support for peace and security.

He added that His Majesty the King reaffirmed these principles during the conference, with his intensive diplomatic engagements on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly demonstrating the Hashemite commitment to leveraging international momentum in favor of Palestine, halting aggression in Gaza, and highlighting the dangers posed by settler attacks in the West Bank, including repeated incursions into Islamic and Christian holy sites, primarily the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Kanaan also noted that Jordan’s position is reflected in field efforts supporting the people of Gaza and Jerusalem, including relocating the Jordanian field hospital from Tel al-Hawa to Khan Younis to provide services to more residents of the besieged Gaza Strip.

He concluded that Jordanian diplomacy will continue to support educational, health, and economic initiatives under the direct guidance of His Majesty King Abdullah, custodian of Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites, serving as a steadfast pillar for the Palestinian people regardless of the sacrifices or challenges involved.
