Amman, Sep. 18 (Petra) – Minister of Education, Azmi Mahafzah, on Thursday inaugurated the new building of al-Hashemi al-Shamali Co-ed Elementary School in Marka District, built with support from the German government through the German Development Bank (KfW) as part of its school construction program.
The new facility includes 22 classrooms and accommodates over 800 students, including 124 Syrian students, helping eliminate double-shift systems and reduce overcrowding at nearby schools. The school’s capacity is 850 students, according to the minister.
The project reflects the depth of cooperation between Jordanian institutions and international partners to advance the education sector, Mahafzah said at the opening ceremony attended by officials from the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Development (BMZ), the KfW, the Marka District Education Directorate, and local community representatives.
The project also led to the closure of a rented school, the elimination of a second-shift system, and the easing of overcrowding in three other schools, improving the learning environment for students and teachers alike.
Mahafzah expressed appreciation to the German government and the KfW for their continued support, noting that funding totaling €29 million has been allocated to construct six modern schools across Jordan. These facilities feature contemporary designs, sustainable solar energy systems, inclusive spaces for students with disabilities, and fully equipped classrooms aimed at creating safe and stimulating learning environments.
