Amman, Sept. 27 (Petra) – Medical teams at the Jordanian Field Hospital-South Gaza/7 on Saturday performed a complex surgical operation on a 22-year-old patient who had sustained chest and abdominal injuries that caused severe bleeding.

The hospital’s commander said the surgery was carried out by a specialized medical team, with the participation of anesthesiologists and operating room technicians from the Jordanian Field Hospital-South Gaza/7, and that the operation was successful.

The hospital director noted that many of the cases treated are critical and complex, requiring surgical interventions such as maxillofacial surgery, orthopedics, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, shrapnel removal and fracture fixation. He stressed that these efforts are part of the specialized medical services provided by the hospital to residents of the Gaza Strip.

A general surgery specialist explained that the patient was admitted to the emergency department suffering from heavy bleeding, low blood pressure and difficulty breathing due to shrapnel injuries in the chest and abdomen.

A chest tube was inserted, and the patient was transferred to the operating room for emergency surgery, where doctors found multiple injuries and perforations in the diaphragm, spleen, stomach and intestines. The diaphragm and stomach were repaired, the spleen was removed, a section of damaged intestine was resected, and a lateral stoma was created due to the severity of the injury. The patient was admitted to the intensive care unit for monitoring and further treatment.

Since its deployment on July 20, the Jordanian Field Hospital-South Gaza/7 has received 45,431 medical cases, conducted 2,940 major and minor operations, and fitted 93 upper and lower prosthetic limbs, bringing the total to 625 prostheses under the "Restoring Hope" initiative.
