Amman, Nov. 16 (Petra) – The Ministry of Water and Irrigation/ Jordan Valley Authority on Sunday announced that cumulative rainfall has reached 4 percent of the long-term annual average of roughly 8.1 billion cubic meters.
In a press statement, the Ministry said rainfall during the recent weather system, from Thursday evening through Sunday morning, resulted in 1.8 million cubic meters of inflows into the Kingdom’s dams. The Wala Dam received the largest share at 400,000 cubic meters, increasing its storage to 5.3 percent of its 25-million-cubic-meter capacity.
The Ministry noted that the remaining amounts were distributed among other dams in varying quantities, except the Wehdeh Dam, which recorded no inflow. Total storage in the Kingdom’s main dams now stands at 43 million cubic meters, or 15 percent of their overall capacity of 288.128 million cubic meters, compared with 57 million cubic meters (20 percent) previously.
The Ministry said its emergency plans were activated during the weather event, handling 1,804 complaints, most of which involved sewage overflows.
