Amman, Dec. 9 (Petra) – A specialized training program on electric vehicle (EV) charging specifications and safety began on Tuesday in Amman, organized by the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment.

The initiative forms part of the "Supporting the Adoption of Electric Mobility in Jordan through the Development and Dissemination of National Standards" project, funded by the NDC Partnership and implemented by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

The program, running through December 18, aims to enhance national capacity in EV charging specifications and conformity assessment by equipping participants with knowledge of international and national standards, technical requirements, and safety protocols. Training modules cover IEC 61851-1 fundamentals, smart charging systems, vehicle-side safety, type approval, conformity assessment, market surveillance, and sampling procedures.

Director General of the JSMO, Abeer Zuhair, emphasized that Jordan is advancing toward technological transformation under the guidance of its Hashemite leadership, with sustainability and innovation as central pillars.

She noted that the transportation sector is the Kingdom’s largest energy consumer, and electrifying it is crucial for meeting climate targets under the Paris Agreement. Zuhair highlighted the importance of a clear, safe regulatory and standards framework to ensure public safety and confidence in EV adoption.

Hanin Abu Hamra, Director of the Green Economy Unit at the Ministry of Environment, stressed that national standards are essential for protecting users, promoting sustainability, and attracting investment. She noted that building technical capacity among government and institutional personnel is vital to ensure safe and effective deployment of EV technologies.

Christophe Assicot, Country Representative of the Global Green Growth Institute, added that national standards enhance safety, boost investor confidence, and support the achievement of greenhouse gas reduction targets. He underlined the GGGI’s commitment to continuing collaboration with the JSMO and the Ministry of Environment to implement the Kingdom’s sustainability and economic modernization objectives.
