Amman, Sept 8 (Petra) – The Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW), in cooperation with UN Women Jordan, on Monday held a meeting to discuss mechanisms for implementing the country’s second National Action Plan (NAP) on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.

The meeting featured three simultaneous discussion groups aimed at identifying priorities and capacity-building needs to strengthen the role of civil society institutions in carrying out initiatives under the second NAP.

JNCW Secretary-General Maha Ali said the gathering sought to highlight training priorities for members, enhance coordination, and integrate efforts between the civil society forum and the commission.

She noted that the partnership aims to expand the role of institutions in implementing the plan’s activities, including advancing women’s participation in decision-making frameworks for crisis prevention and response, addressing climate change and emergencies, ensuring safe access for women to social protection and essential services, and working with schools, media, community leaders, and youth to promote gender equality and prevent violence, discrimination, and violent extremism.

Ali stressed the importance of tracking civil society achievements that contribute to the plan’s goals, saying such monitoring clarifies their national role and supports annual progress evaluations.

UN Women Country Representative in Jordan Nicolas Burniat welcomed the diversity of participating civil society organizations, both in their work and the communities they represent. He said this diversity adds value by strengthening joint action and tailoring interventions to community needs, thereby supporting the NAP’s implementation and benefiting Jordan as a whole.

The JNCW restructured the civil society forum earlier this year based on reference terms approved by the Ministerial Committee for Women’s Empowerment. The forum now has 61 members and seeks to enhance coordination with the commission and strengthen civil society’s role in advancing the plan.
