Amman, September 15 (Petra) Minister of Interior Mazen Faraya chaired a meeting of the Supreme Council for Civil Defence on Monday at the Ministry of Interior.

The meeting focused on ensuring national readiness for the upcoming winter season and reviewing necessary preparations to respond to expected weather conditions and emergencies.

Discussions included the evaluation of plans developed for this purpose and their effectiveness in accordance with the Public Security Law No 38 of 1965 and its amendments.

Faraya praised the state’s accumulated experience and highly qualified personnel in addressing weather-related challenges.

He highlighted the country’s ability to achieve near-complete foresight into potential weather scenarios including problem areas, timing, resource requirements and opportunities for improvement.

He discussed documenting these insights in the institutional memory of each concerned entity.

He announced that the meeting marks the official launch of winter emergency preparedness efforts and commended the Civil Defence Department for its exceptional capabilities and continued modernisation.

Faraya noted the approval of the Coordinated National Plan for Addressing Extreme Weather Conditions for 2025–2026, developed through the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management.

He called on all relevant institutions to review their roles within this plan, begin implementation and apply lessons learned from previous seasons.

He also instructed governors to finalise and update local emergency response plans through their respective civil defense committees.

The Minister emphasised the critical role of public awareness in managing weather-related risks, describing Jordanian's as essential partners in national emergency response.

He discussed the value of organised volunteer work during crises and called for a systematic approach to managing volunteer contributions.

Public Security Director Major General Obaidallah Maaytah reaffirmed the Civil Defence Directorate's readiness to provide a comprehensive humanitarian response throughout the winter season.

He said that volunteer teams will be organised and deployed in coordination with the Civil Defence Directorate, guided by upcoming media and awareness campaigns.

Brigadier General Imad Dheeb, Director of the Civil Defence Directorate, presented a detailed briefing on the Public Security Directorate's winter preparedness plan.

The presentation covered risk assessment, available capabilities, proactive response measures, monitoring mechanisms and implementation strategies under the national plan.

It also included media outreach strategies and the organisation of volunteer teams.

In a related proposal, Haitham Rawajbeh, representing the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, suggested the development of an interactive mobile application to provide real-time updates on weather developments and fluctuations.

The app would serve as a continuous communication channel with people to enhance preparedness.

An agreement was reached for direct coordination between the Civil Defence Directorate and the Jordan Chamber of Commerce to begin implementing the proposed application.
