Amman, Nov. 14 (Petra)-- The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has declared a medium-level state of emergency in response to the unstable weather conditions affecting the Kingdom today and Saturday.
GAM spokesperson Nasser Al-Rahamneh renewed the municipality’s call for residents to follow the precautionary measures previously announced for such weather events.
Key recommendations include securing construction materials to prevent blockage of rainwater drainage lines, checking submersible pumps in building basements and shops, and taking steps to protect goods and property from potential water leakage.
The municipality also urged the public to avoid low-lying areas and flood-prone valleys, and to refrain from discarding waste or debris improperly to ensure the drainage network remains effective.
Residents were further advised not to connect rooftop rain gutters to the sewage system to prevent overflows, to secure items that may be blown away by strong winds such as zinc sheets and advertising boards and to stay away from electrical sources in streets and parks.
GAM called on citizens to follow official weather updates and safety warnings issued by government authorities.
Al-Rahamneh affirmed GAM’s readiness to respond to any assistance requests during emergency weather conditions. Citizens may reach the municipality’s unified call center at 102 or 117180.
