Amman, Dec. 9 (Petra) The Electricity Distribution Company (EDCO) on Tuesday signed a cooperation agreement with ElementsX, a company specializing in drone-based solutions, to deploy unmanned aircraft technologies in the company’s inspection and routine monitoring operations for its networks and facilities, in a move aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing safety standards.
The agreement comes as part of the company’s drive to modernize its operations and keep pace with global developments in the use of drone systems supported by artificial intelligence for inspecting and monitoring electricity networks.
Through the agreement, the company seeks to increase the accuracy of fault detection and enable predictive maintenance by analyzing images and data, identifying indicators of overheating, corrosion, and vegetation encroachment before they turn into actual faults or power outages.
The Electricity Distribution Company aims, through this cooperation, to bolster the readiness of its network and improve the quality of services provided to subscribers, while also raising occupational safety standards for employees by reducing dependence on manual field inspections in hard-to-reach areas and replacing them with safe, modern digital solutions.
General Manager of the company, Engineer Reem Hamdan Saudi, said the company is continuously working to develop its operational capabilities and benefit from modern technologies in improving its work.
She said the agreement will translate this effort into an integrated package of drone-based services for the Electricity Distribution Company, including high-resolution aerial photography of the company’s sites and facilities, periodic monitoring of long-distance electricity distribution lines and networks, and early detection and oversight of potential faults, malfunction areas, and risk points.
