Amman, Dec. 10 (Petra) -- A deepening low-pressure system centered south of Cyprus is influencing the Kingdom on Wednesday, bringing cold weather to most regions and skies ranging from partly cloudy to overcast.

Intermittent showers are expected across various parts of the country, including Aqaba. Some rainfall may become heavy for short periods and could be accompanied by thunder and hail, raising the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas.

By night, rainfall is forecast to weaken, though cold and partly cloudy conditions will persist. Winds will be moderate from the southwest and may strengthen at times, stirring dust in desert regions.

The Jordan Meteorological Department has issued warnings of flash floods, rising water levels in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba, as well as the danger of thunderstorms. Reduced visibility is expected in high mountain areas and parts of the plains due to fog and low clouds, while dust may further reduce visibility in desert regions.

The impact of the low-pressure system will intensify on Thursday, when cold, cloudy, and rainy conditions continue across the north and center and extend into parts of the east and southwest.

Showers may become heavy and accompanied by lightning, thunder, and hail, increasing the risk of flooding. Southwesterly winds will remain moderate, becoming active at times and raising dust, particularly in open and desert areas.

Cold and partly cloudy to cloudy conditions will continue on Friday, with intermittent showers expected in western parts of the country. Some rainfall may be heavy in the morning across central areas and parts of the southwest. Rain will gradually weaken through the evening and night. Winds will shift to northwesterly, moderate at first and occasionally active.

On Saturday, cold conditions will prevail in most regions, while the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba remain relatively mild. Clouds will appear at varying altitudes, and light showers are possible in the west. Winds will be moderate from the northwest and may become active at times.

Wednesday’s temperatures range between 15 C and 7 C in East Amman and 13 C and 6 C in West Amman. The northern highlands are forecast at 11 C–5 C and the Sharah highlands at 11 C–4 C.

Desert regions will record 16 C–5 C, the plains 15 C–7 C, the northern valley 22 C–11 C, the southern valley 24 C–13 C, the Dead Sea 22 C–12 C, and Aqaba 22 C–12 C.
