Amman, Sep. 11 (Petra) – The Family and Juvenile Protection Department of the Public Security Directorate (PSD), in partnership with United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), inaugurated new child- and women-friendly facilities at its branches in the Zaatari and Azraq refugee camps on Thursday.
The initiative, supported by the Government of Korea through its embassy in Jordan, aims to enhance protection services for groups most vulnerable to violence, building on previous successful experiences at the Family and Juvenile Protection Department in North Amman.
The facilities represent a qualitative step toward strengthening national protection systems and reflect the strategic cooperation between the PSD and UNICEF to improve infrastructure and provide comprehensive services for children and women across the Kingdom.
The new centers include child- and women-friendly interview rooms for survivors of violence, ensuring privacy and psychological support, a room for interviewing children in conflict with the law, a family dispute resolution room, a forensic clinic, and a fully equipped playground offering a safe environment for children.
Brigadier General Ziad Nsour, Director of the Family and Juvenile Protection Department, said the project is part of a strategic partnership with UNICEF and will enhance the quality of services while strengthening protection mechanisms to ensure a more humane and effective environment.
Deputy Representative at UNICEF Jordan Shairose Mawji underscored the facilities’ significance in protecting children and women from violence, providing safe and dignified services, and praised the continued collaboration between UNICEF, the PSD, and the Government of Korea to reinforce national systems.
Korean Ambassador to Jordan Kim Pil-woo highlighted Korea’s contribution as a demonstration of humanitarian solidarity and support for Jordan, which hosts over one million Syrian refugees. He emphasized ongoing cooperation to build a safer, more just future for children, women, and families.
